Nailfold Capillaroscopy
Nailfold Capillaroscopy is a simple and painless way of looking at the tiny blood vessels at the base of the fingernails using a special magnifying camera.
These tiny vessels are called capillaries and are part of the body’s circulation. By gently magnifying the area around the fingernails, we can see how these small blood vessels look and how they are arranged.
What Is Nailfold Capillaroscopy?
When the skin around the fingernails is gently magnified, the tiny blood vessels (capillaries) can be seen through the skin.
Looking at these vessels gives me an opportunity to see their shape, size, number and general appearance.
It provides another piece of information that I can consider as part of an individual’s overall health assessment.
